Ben graduated from Fairfield Union High School in 1995 and went on to run for Ohio University on scholarship. Ben's College Coach was Elmore Banton, who was a NCAA I National Champion in Cross Country He coached numerous All Americans and Numerous All MAC Champions, Team and Individual.

• A member of the 1997 All MAC Cross Country Championship team Was Freshman of the Year in the MAC, 1996
• Second All time fastest 3000m Steeplechase for Ohio University
• Multiple time All-MSL in track and cross country

• Multiple time All-Region in track and cross country
• Div II State Runner-up in Cross Country
• Div II State Runner-up in Track (1600 meter)
