Birmingham, Aviva Grand Prix

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

After a sleepless flight across the ocean I arrived in Amsterdam and then took another short flight to Birmingham England in order to race the Aviva Grand Prix two days later. I ended up getting 5th in the 1500m with a time of 3:40.88. I struggled a little in the middle of the race but was able to stay composed and then finish well. I can take a lot of positive out of this race and feel like I’ll be ready to race well this upcoming weekend at the U.S. Champs.
Birmingham is a cool town with lots of restaurants and some nice canals that are great for running.

I had a decent race going this past weekend despite how slow we went out. I was working myself into striking position over the last 400m. Getting ready to move onto the heals of Chris before the last 200m I got my feet tangled with another runner. At first he went wide so I was going to go inside but right at that moment he came back in and it was to late. Long story short he went down. I did what ever it took to stay on my feet and by that time Nick and Chris were gone. After a quick look back to see who was coming I held my ground for Third Place. I was really frustrated afterwards but racing often has unexpected situations. Its best to learn what you can, put the bad behind you and get ready to be great in the next one.

Sometimes you take a hit!

Monday, February 9th, 2009

This past weekend I raced the mile in the Reebok games and it went awful. I was very disappointed in myself after the race until I went on my run the following day and put things in perspective. It is going to take time to fully adjust to my new program. I’m putting myself into things 100% and I’m willing to take the HITS early on in order to reach my goal in the end. Sometimes it can be embarrassing or even depressing to run bad in races but I have to keep the goal in mind. It is not always a smooth ride to get to your destination. Thanks again to everyone who has been sending me messages telling me to stay positive. I really appreciate the support.
