Today was an easy 70 minute run on the pipeline trail at 6,000 feet. I felt good. One more day in Utah! It has been fun!

Day 28: Tuesday 11/18/08
I had my last tempo of the trip this morning and it went better than Sunday for sure. I started with the usual 3 miles warm up, did 5 miles at threshold and then jogged down two. My splits were: 5:09, 5:17, 5:08, 5:07, 5:08. Not sure how the mile in 5:17 happened but it really doesn’t hurt anything because your threshold window is rather large. I’m still curious as to how much being at 4,200 feet effects that run and if I will feel much different when I get home. I will know soon because I leave for home on Thursday. I’m ready to go home but I’m also going to miss this place. All I have had to do here is run and rest without any outside distractions. Not to mention how beautiful it is.

Day 27: Monday 11/17/08
Off to the treadmill today. I did an easy 10 miles at 8,000 feet. I wanted to make sure I was in a controlled environment so I could stop right away if my stomach locked up. I didn’t have any real problems, just some discomfort.

Day 26: Sunday 11/16/08
Today we had our l4 mile cut down and my stomach was bothering me before we even hit the pavement. I got it worked on Thursday and it has been giving me some problems ever since. I tried to stay as focused as I could during the run but by mile 12 it was giving some major problems and I couldn’t breathe. I finally just stopped and tried to let it calm down. Once it goes into spasm there really isn’t much I can do. It will be fine, I have dealt with this for years.

Day 24: Friday 11/14/08
AM. This morning I just had a nice easy 5 miles at 8,000 feet. I did my run on the treadmill and made sure I kept myself at an easy pace.
PM. Oh how I love hills….. I did 33 minutes warm up, 8x 300 meter hills with 3 minutes total rest (counting the jog down) and then jogged an easy 20 minutes for my cool down. I felt ok once I got going but starting off was a little rough. 51, 51, 51, 49, 48, 47, 47, 46. My total running time for this session was 1 hour and 20 minutes minus around 10 min of walking rest time.

Day 23: Thursday 11/13/08
We drove to Ogden today to do our 10 mile easy run on some trails, lift and get massages all in one session. I felt a little sluggish so I decided to stay back and run at my own pace. We were with some Weber state guys and I think they were excited to show us the trails because they were running at a fast tempo. The trails were on the mountainside above the city and you could look over and see everything. Other than the tempo that I wasn’t excited about, it was a nice relaxing run. I felt good doing my muscular work/ core and the massage was great.

Day 21: Tuesday 11/11/08
AM. Another hard day in the works… I couldn’t help but feel anxious. I wanted to get the most out of my body for more than one reason. For starters, I’m at altitude and I wanted to make sure I was taking full advantage of it. Secondly that’s just how I’m wired. We headed down off the mountain to do our workout on the Jordan River Parkway.
We started with a three mile warm up which I felt fine on. Then we went into our five miles hard which I was able to run in 5:10, 4:59, 5:05, 5:10, 5:10. I still wasn’t that happy with this run but I need to look at all the work we have been doing and the fact that we are at altitude. We jogged down two miles easy.
PM. I went to the club house weight room to do my core and muscular work. Felt Good!
